We rarely stick to one particular language, rather, try to come up with new and fresh approachesin each project – be it techniques, materials, or adding an expression of exotic feel to use in the place where the project is located.

จุดเริ่มต้นของ PVWB Studio เป็นอย่างไร และอะไรทำให้ตัดสินใจเปิดออฟฟิศ
วิธีคิด การสื่อสาร และความสนิทสนมกันในช่วงที่เป็นพนักงานออฟฟิศแห่งเดียวกันในช่วงแรก ทำให้เรามีโอกาสได้ร่วมงานอื่นๆที่เข้ามาระหว่างนั้น ซึ่งเราทั้งสามคน คือ วิชญวัส บุญประสงค์ พัสวี ว่องเจริญ และ พีรพัทธ์ สิงคาลวานิช เริ่มสะสมคอนเนคชั่นกันมาตั้งแต่งานออกแบบโครงการเล็กๆ ขยับขึ้นมาเป็นโครงการใหญ่ อีกทั้งยังมีโครงการติดต่อเข้ามาอย่างต่อเนื่อง จึงทำให้เราเห็นตรงกันว่าควรตั้ง พีวีดับบลิวบี สตูดิโอ (PVWB Studio) ขึ้นมา ซึ่งจากวันนั้นจนวันนี้แม้จะเป็นเวลาไม่นานมาก แต่ขนาดออฟฟิศของเราก็เติบโตอย่างรวดเร็ว เรามีน้องๆ และเพื่อนร่วมงานเกือบ 10 คนแล้ว
ในแต่ละโครงการออกแบบของ PVWB Studio มีวิธีคิด หรือกระบวนการคิดในการออกแบบอย่างไร
เรามักสนใจกับเรื่องของซีเควนซ์และฟังก์ชั่นก่อนเสมอ จากนั้นถึงเป็นเรื่องของแมส ฟอร์มและภาษาที่จะใช้ในการออกแบบ เราไม่ค่อยยึดติดกับภาษาที่ใช้แต่พยายามจะหาวิธีการใหม่ๆ ตั้งแต่เทคนิค วัสดุ รวมถึงการนำเสนอฟีลลิ่งที่แปลกใหม่มาใช้กับพื้นที่มากกว่า ซึ่งวิธีการคิดในรูปแบบประมาณนี้ได้แรงบันดาลใจมาจาก เหล่า Great Architects ที่ชื่นชอบอย่าง Peter Zumthor หรือฝั่งของประเทศไทยอย่าง คุณเมธา บุนนาค เรานำวิธีการตีความและ การหาคำตอบให้กับงานออกแบบนั้นๆ ของทั้งสองท่านมาประยุกต์กับแนวทางการออกแบบของเราด้วย

ช่วยยกตัวอย่างผลงานที่รู้สึกท้าทาย หรือประทับใจในการทำงาน มา 2-3 ผลงาน
โครงการออกแบบบ้านให้กับเภสัชกร Yasanan House และโครงการออกแบบ Baan Khun Toi คือโครงการที่รู้สึกท้าทายและรู้สึกสนุกในเวลาเดียวกัน เพราะเป็นโครงการที่มีทั้งข้อจำกัดและโจทย์ที่ซับซ้อน อย่าง Yasanan House เป็นโครงการออกแบบบ้านที่มีขนาดที่ดินหน้าแคบ แต่มีความลึกจากปากทางติดถนนใหญ่ไปจนถึงซอยด้านหลัง จึงทำให้เกิดเป็นกลุ่มอาคาร 2 ก้อน แยกออกจากกันเป็น 2 ฟังก์ชั่นหลัก คือ ร้านขายยาและบ้านพักอาศัย ส่วนโครงการ Baan Khun Toi เป็นโครงการที่เราต้องประสานบ้าน 4 หลังให้เป็นหนึ่งเดียวกัน ในขณะที่แต่ละหลังก็ยังต้องการความเป็นส่วนตัว และมีความต้องการที่แตกต่างกันโดยสิ้นเชิง

ในฐานะที่ PVWB Studio เป็นสถาปนิกรุ่นใหม่ คิดว่าสตูดิโอของตัวเองในวันนี้เดินทางมาถึงเป้าหมาย ที่วางไว้แล้วหรือยัง
ถ้าพูดถึงการเติบโตคิดว่า PVWB ก็เดินทางมาได้ไกลระดับหนึ่ง แต่ถ้าพูดถึงเป้าหมายที่คาดหวังไว้นั้นยังอีกไกลมาก เป้าหมายในที่นี้ไม่ใช่การอยากมีออฟฟิศที่ใหญ่ขึ้น หรือมีจำนวนพนักงานที่เยอะ แต่เราอยากให้ผลงานของเราไปได้ไกลกว่านี้ มีคนอินหรืออยากมาชมผลงานของเราจริงๆ มากกว่าดูจากในรูปภาพ เหมือนที่เราอยากเดินทางไปชมผลงานของ Great Architects หลายๆ คน ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าการจะเป็นอย่างที่กล่าวมาได้นั้นก็คงต้องพัฒนาทักษะและวิธีคิดใหม่ๆ มาใช้ในการออกแบบกันอีกมาก
What was the starting point of PVWB Studio and what made you decide to open an office?
The three of us Witchawat Boonprasong, Passawee Vongcharoen, and Peerapat Singkalvanich share the same way of thinking, communication style and we were also close friends during our early days as employees in the same office. It was an opportunity to work with some clients during that period. We then started collecting more connections from small projects to larger ones, and fortunately, there are also projects coming in constantly. So we agreed that it would be the right time to set up our studio and that was where PVWB Studio came up. Until now our office has been expanding quite rapidly and we’ve got close to about 10 colleagues in the team now.
What is the design approach or the thinking process in each project of PVWB Studio?
We always pay attention to sequences and functions first. Then it’s about the mass, form, and the design language. We rarely stick to one particular language, rather, try to come up with new and fresh approaches in each project be it techniques, materials, or adding an expression of exotic feel to use in the place where the project is located. This way of thinking was pretty much inspired by great architects such as Peter Zumthor or the Thai architect Metha Bunnag. We study their approach to architecture, their solution to design and we more or less adopted and applied it to our design approach.
Project: Baan Khun Toi Project: Baan Khun Toi
Name a few examples of PVWB’s recent works that you found to be challenging or impressive.
For us, the Yasanan House and Baan Khun Toi are both challenging and fun at the same time. Both came with complicated briefs and constraints. Yasanan House is located on a narrow plot of land but has a depth from the entrance to the main road to the back alley, resulting in a design with 2 building blocks separated into 2 main functions a pharmacy and a residence. Whereas Baan Khun Toi is a project where we have to design and combine 4 houses into one while each house still needs privacy and has completely different requirements.

For a young practice like PVWB Studio, do you think you have reached a certain goal or a certain point to the destination?
When it comes to growth, PVWB has come quite a long way. But when it comes to our expected goal, we’re still very far away. The goal here is not to have a larger office or have more staff but we want to push our work further. Some people are impressed or want to come and see our real work rather than merely look at the photographs in the same way that we want to travel to see the works of many great architects. No doubt, we’ve still got a long long way to go.
