ที่ผ่านมา ทางสมาคมสถาปนิกสยาม ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์มีการจัดงานเสวนา ASA Real Estate ขึ้นทุกปีอยู่แล้วเพื่อพูดคุยกับกลุ่มนักพัฒนาโครงการอสังหาริมทรัพย์ แต่เราคิดว่าน่าจะขยายเนื้อหาให้กว้างขึ้นเพื่อพูดคุยกับกลุ่มคนอื่นๆ นอกเหนือจากนักออกแบบเพียงอย่างเดียว ประกอบกับทางกรุงเทพมหานคร ได้หารือกับสมาคมสถาปนิกสยามฯ เพื่อหาวิธีการที่จะได้มาซึ่งผังเมืองที่ดีสำหรับกรุงเทพฯ ซึ่งกระบวนการเหล่านี้ยากเกินกว่าที่อาสาสมัครเพียงฝ่ายเดียวจะทำได้ จำเป็นต้องพึ่งพามืออาชีพที่มีประสบการณ์ตรง รวมถึงองค์ความรู้ที่หลากหลายมาร่วมออกแบบเมืองด้วยกัน เนื่องด้วยประเด็นเกี่ยวกับเมืองเป็นเรื่องใหญ่ และเป็นเรื่องที่ทางสมาคมสถาปนิกสยามฯ ทำโดยลำพังไม่ได้ นี่คือจุดเริ่มต้นของการจัดงานเทศกาล WOW Wonder of Well-being ขึ้นมาครั้งแรกในปี พ.ศ. 2565 โดยเกิดจากความร่วมมือขององค์กรมากมายมาร่วมกันแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับการพัฒนาเมือง ไม่ว่าจะนักออกแบบ นักพัฒนาโครงการ กลุ่มผู้สร้างสรรค์นวัตกรรม หน่วยงานของกรุงเทพมหานคร องค์กรอิสระอื่นๆ และประชาชนทั่วไป ให้กลายเป็นเทศกาลที่เล่าเรื่องเกี่ยวกับเมืองในหลายๆ มิติ
งาน WOW Wonder of Well-being ยังเป็นการเปิดโอกาสสำหรับสมาชิกของสมาคมฯ ในการอัปเดตแนวทางการออกแบบและพัฒนาโครงการในอนาคต ผ่านนิทรรศการต่างๆ ที่ได้ชวนคิดและจินตนาการร่วมกันว่าเมืองที่น่าอยู่จะเป็นอย่างไร รวมทั้งภายในงานยังมีการนำเสนอตัวอย่างโครงการพัฒนาเมือง งานวิจัยต่างๆ และการมอบรางวัล WOW Awards ซึ่งเมื่อรัฐบาล เทศบาลเมือง หรือประชาชนทั่วไปได้เห็น ก็อาจจะรับรู้ได้ว่าโครงการเหล่านี้ไม่ได้แค่สวย แต่ยังผ่านกระบวนการคิดและความตั้งใจที่จะนำพาเมืองไปสู่การพัฒนาในอีกระดับหนึ่ง
สำหรับวารสารอาษาฉบับพิเศษ WOW Wonder of Well-being ฉบับนี้ จึงรวบรวมทั้งข้อมูลงานวิจัย เนื้อหาจากงานเสวนา และนิทรรศการต่างๆ ตลอดจนการบันทึกบรรยากาศของงานเทศกาลและความร่วมมือที่เกิดขึ้น ที่อาจนับได้ว่าผลจากการจัดงานครั้งนี้เราประสบความสำเร็จขั้นหนึ่งแล้วในการเชิญหลากหลายองค์กรมาพูดคุยกันอย่างที่ไม่เคยเกิดขึ้นมาก่อน และเป้าหมายที่สำคัญที่สุดคือ ทางสมาคมสถาปนิกสยามฯอยากผลักดันให้เกิดงานวิจัยและออกแบบเมืองในทุกมิติ รวมถึงการนำเอานวัตกรรมจากหลายๆ แหล่งมาร่วมมือกันในการแก้ไขปัญหาเมือง แลกเปลี่ยนวิสัยทัศน์ และเห็นเป้าหมายที่ตรงกัน ซึ่งถ้าเป็นไปได้ก็หวังจะให้เกิดการจัดงานเทศกาล WOW นี้ขึ้นอีกทุกปี เพื่อที่เราจะได้มีโอกาสมาพูดคุยกันอีกซ้ำๆ จนสิ่งนี้กลายเป็นเรื่องของทุกคนในเมืองกับการมีส่วนร่วมกันสร้างเมืองที่น่าอยู่ และเป็นความภาคภูมิใจของคนที่อยู่ในเมืองต่างๆ ของประเทศ

While the Siamese Architect Association under Royal Patronage has hosted ASA Real Estate on an annual basis as a platform for discussion with real-estate developers, we have wished to broaden the topics and contents of conversations and share ideas with other groups of professionals and relevant parties besides designers and architects. The Bangkok Metropolitan Office has consulted with the ASA to find the best possible solutions for Bangkok’s city plan. These processes are far too challenging to accomplish solely by volunteers. Designing and developing a city requires collaborations between experts with direct and diverse experiences and know-how. The issues concerning Bangkok’s urban development are significant and complicated and can only be handled partially by the ASA. This realization resulted in the birth of WOW Wonder of Well-Being in 2022, the festival that initiates collaborations between a large number of organizations, including designers and architects, real-estate project developers, innovators, Bangkok Metropolitan’s agencies, other independent organizations, and the public sector, all of which come together to share and exchange thoughts on how Bangkok could be developed. This festival tells stories of cities in many different and possible dimensions.
WOW Wonder of Well-Being also grants an opportunity for the members of the Architect Association to be informed about the latest updates regarding possible future approaches in design and project developments through various exhibitions that call for everyone to contemplate and imagine a livable city together. The festival will also feature exciting projects and research on urban developments and the WOW Awards. By shining a light on these works, the governmental sector and local authorities such as city municipalities, as well as the general public, will be able to see and understand that these projects are far more than just nice-looking appearances but the products of carefully thought-out processes and an intention to take the city to the next level of development.
This special issue of the ASA Journal, “WOW Wonder of Well-Being,” puts together the presented research data and contents, as well as the activities and collaborations that took place at the festivals. WOW Wonder of Well-Being is a successful attempt at bringing together organizations on this unprecedented scale. Our most important goal is to push for more research and developments in every dimension of urban planning, including incorporating innovations from different fields of knowledge and expertise to help realize and reconcile city-related issues. We hope to see more visions exchanged and goals shared in the future and to see WOW Festival held annually. WOW will become a platform to discuss these issues more thoroughly and comprehensively, to the point where all parties and sectors realize the importance of their contribution and participation in creating better and more livable cities in which everyone can take pride.
