First, we have to be good listeners and be open to the owner’s requirements and needs. Sometimes even the client’s taste might offend us, but we will gradually compromise and fine tune, trying to find the middle path and propose a better idea and design.

Sute Architect มีจุดเริ่มต้นอย่างไร ช่วยเล่าให้ฟังสั้นๆ
เริ่มต้นจาก สิทธิพล โกมลเวชกุล ซึ่งเรียนจบจากคณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ ผังเมืองและนฤมิตศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม และไปทำงานตำแหน่งสถาปนิกอยู่บริษัทรับออกแบบข้ามชาติแห่งหนึ่งที่ เกาะสมุย สุราษฎร์ธานี เพื่อเก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์ ทำงานมาได้สักระยะจึงตัดสินใจย้ายกลับมาทำงานที่ภาคอีสาน ในช่วงแรกที่เพิ่งกลับมาทำงานใหม่ๆ ที่บ้านเกิด จังหวัดอำนาจเจริญ ตอนนั้นยังเป็นฟรีแลนซ์รับออกแบบโครงการเล็กๆ ทั่วไป พองานเริ่มเข้ามาเรื่อยๆ อย่างต่อเนื่อง จึงชวนเพื่อนสถาปนิกที่สนิทกันคือ สุทธินนท์ ไถวสินธุ์ มาร่วมก่อตั้ง บริษัท สุธีสถาปนิก ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ที่อุบลราชธานี เพราะเป็นเมืองใหญ่ที่เอื้อต่อการทำงานในสายงานออกแบบมากกว่า
รูปแบบการทำงาน และแนวคิดในการออกแบบของสุธีสถาปนิกเป็นอย่างไร
เราเข้าใจวิธีการทำงานของสายงานนี้ดีว่าเจ้าของโครงการหรือเจ้าของบ้านทุกหลัง มีความชอบและความต้องการที่แตกต่างกัน การทำงานของเราอันดับแรกคือการเป็นผู้ฟังที่ดีและเปิดใจรับความต้องการของเจ้าของว่าดีไซน์ที่เขาต้องการนั้นเป็นอย่างไร ถึงแม้สิ่งที่เขาอยากได้จะขัดใจเราก็ตาม แต่เราก็จะค่อยๆ หาตรงกลางและนำเสนอแนวคิดรวมถึงดีไซน์ในรูปแบบที่ดีขึ้นให้กับเขา หรือในบางครั้งที่เราได้เจอกับเจ้าของบ้านรสนิยมดีๆ ก็ทำให้เราเปิดโลกในด้านการออกแบบด้วยเหมือนกัน แนวคิดในการทำงาน แต่ละโครงการจึงไม่ตายตัว ส่วนใหญ่จะอิงตามความต้องการของเจ้าของโครงการและเน้นแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดกันเป็นหลัก จากนั้นจึงค่อยมาพัฒนาแบบให้เกิดความน่าสนใจ

ผลงานออกแบบที่รู้สึกท้าทาย และประทับใจมีผลงานไหนบ้าง
แนวคิดเราเริ่มจากการยึดความต้องการของเจ้าของเป็นหลัก ความท้าทายที่เกิดขึ้นในการทำงานจะมีอยู่ไม่กี่โครงการ นั่นคือโครงการที่เราได้ใส่ความเป็นตัวเองและแนวคิดของเรา 100% เช่น โครงการบ้านคุณปอ โชว์รูม Honda Bigwing Ubon และ Wind Clinic โดยเฉพาะโชว์รูม Honda Bigwing Ubon เป็นอีกโครงการที่ค่อนข้างประทับใจมาก เพราะมีโอกาสได้เผยแพร่ในนิตยสารของประเทศเกาหลี รวมถึงโครงการ Wind Clinic ก็ยังได้เผยแพร่ในสื่ออื่นๆ ด้วยเช่นกัน
ช่วงสถานการณ์โควิด-19 ที่ผ่านมา สุธีสถาปนิกได้รับผลกระทบบ้างไหม อย่างไรบ้าง
เป็นเรื่องน่าแปลกที่เราแทบไม่ได้รับผลกระทบจากสถานการณ์โควิด-19 เลย อาจเพราะกลุ่มลูกค้าส่วนใหญ่เป็นกลุ่มของแพทย์ และเป็นงานสเกลบ้านมากกว่าโครงการใหญ่ๆ จึงทำให้ไม่เกิดการหยุดชะงัก ซึ่งแพทย์เขาก็ไม่ได้รับผลกระทบในช่วงสถานการณ์นี้อยู่แล้ว รวมถึงมาตรการควบคุมไซต์งานของต่างจังหวัดก็อาจจะไม่ถูกระงับเหมือนในกรุงเทพจากช่วงที่ผ่านมา
จากวันแรกจนถึงวันนี้ การทำงานของสุธีสถาปนิกเปลี่ยนแปลงไปอย่างไร
ตลอดระยะเวลา 10 กว่าปีที่ก่อตั้งสุธีสถาปนิก แน่นอนว่าสเกลงานที่เราทำนั้นมีขนาดใหญ่ขึ้นเรื่อยๆ และมีเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างค่อนข้างก้าวกระโดด จากแรกเริ่มก่อนเปิดสำนักงานตั้งใจให้มีพนักงานแค่ 5 คน รับงานปีละ 5 งาน กลับกลายเป็นปัจจุบันมีพนักงานร่วม 20 คนเห็นจะได้ เพราะโครงการที่เข้ามาต่อเนื่องจึงทำให้เราจำเป็นต้องขยายทีมเพื่อให้งานสามารถดำเนินการได้อย่างครอบคลุมและรวดเร็ว และมีโอกาสในการรับงานมากขึ้นในจังหวัดอื่นๆ ของแถบภาคอีสาน เช่น ขอนแก่น ศรีสะเกษ อำนาจเจริญ ไปจนถึงในภาคอื่นๆ อย่างภูเก็ต ซึ่งเป็นคอนเนคชั่นเก่า จากการทำงานในช่วงแรกที่เกาะสมุย ในอนาคตหากโครงการที่เข้ามายังคงมีเพิ่มขึ้นก็อาจมีการขยายทีมเพิ่มอีก เพราะเราอยากให้งานออกมามีคุณภาพ ดำเนินการในทุกโครงการได้อย่างไม่ติดขัด และราบรื่นมากที่สุด
Could you tell us briefly how Sute Architect started?
It started with myself, Sittipon Komolwet; I am a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture, Urban Design and Creative Arts, Mahasarakham University. Then I went to work as an architect at a multinational design company at Koh Samui, Surat Thani, to gain more professional experience. After a while, I decided to move back to work in the northeastern region, which in the beginning, I just returned to work at my hometown in Amnat Charoen Province. At that time, I was still a freelancer designing mainly small projects. As the work began to come in continually, I invited one of my close architect friends, Sutinon Thawisin, to join and founded Sute Architect. Our office is located in Ubon Ratchathani because it is a large city and we think it is more conducive to working in the design field.
What are the working style and design approaches of Sute Architect?
We understand well that every project owner or homeowner has their preferences and needs. First, we have to be good listeners and be open to the owner’s requirements and the design he wants. Sometimes even the client’s taste might offend us, but we will gradually compromise and fine-tune, trying to find the middle path and propose a better idea and design. Sometimes we have a good chance to work with homeowners with good taste, which is also good because it allows us to open up the world in terms of design. So the design approach of each project is not fixed. Most of them are based on the requirements of project owners and then lead on to exchanging ideas, and gradually we develop the design and make it more interesting.

Would you name a few challenging designs or works that you find impressive?
As said earlier, our concept starts with the owner’s needs. A few projects that come up with challenges are those we have put 100% of ourselves and our ideas, such as the Baan Khun Po project, the Honda Big Wing Ubon showroom, and the Wind Clinic. The Honda Big Wing Ubon showroom is quite an impressive one, and we are very proud of it because it got published in a Korean design magazine. The Wind Clinic project has got published in many media as well.
In this Covid-19 situation, has Sute Architect been affected?
Surprisingly, we are almost unaffected by the pandemic situation, probably because many of our customers are medical doctors. And also, it’s more of a house-scale job than a big project. So I would say there is not much interruption. The doctors were not much affected during this situation anyway. Our project sites are mainly outside Bangkok, which is not under strict control measures, so it causes very little effect for us.

From the first day until today, how has the work of Sute Architect developed and changed?
Throughout the ten years since the establishment of our studio, the scale of our work has been getting bigger and bigger and has increased immensely from where we started. Before we officially started the studio, we initially intended to have only five employees, accepting five jobs a year, but it has now turned into a total of 20 employees. Due to the ongoing projects, we unavoidably have to expand the team to carry out the work comprehensively and quickly. We also see the opportunity to get more projects in other provinces in the northeastern region – Khon Kaen, Sisaket, Amnat Charoen, and in other areas such as Phuket, which is from my previous professional connections during the time I worked in Koh Samui. Who knows, in the future, if the incoming projects continue to increase, there could be an additional team expansion because we want the work to come out with quality, and we want to implement all projects smoothly.
