Results of the ASA Cloud Center Songkhla Competition

An initiative of the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage is The ASA Cloud Center Songkhla Competition with an aim to develop an information center in Songkhla. In order to serve as a center for local professional architects as well as a resource of knowledge for the general public.  The brief given was to renovate the three block old building on Nakorn Nok Road which is a simple single-story building, built with brick and wood, in the old city area of Songkhla. The idea behind the project also aims to promote and conserve the value of the city. The result was recently announced in May.

สมาคมสถาปนิกสยามในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ต้องการพัฒนาศูนย์อาษาคลาวด์เมืองสงขลา เพื่อใช้เป็นศูนย์รวมของผู้ประกอบวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมรวมทั้งเป็นแหล่งเผยแพร่ความรู้ทางสถาปัตยกรรมแก่ผู้ที่สนใจในเมืองได้เข้า มาใช้งานด้วยการปรับปรุงอาคารเก่าสามคูหาในย่านถนนนครนอก ซึ่งเป็นอาคารในเขตเมืองเก่าสงขลาที่มีลักษณะเป็นอาคารเรือนแถวรูปแบบเรียบง่ายโครงสร้างปูน และไม้ความสูงหนึ่งชั้น จึงจัดเป็นโครงการประกวดแนวความคิดในการออกแบบปรับปรุงอาคารขึ้นเพื่อนำาเสนอเป็นอาคารตัวอย่างที่ส่งเสริมการอนุรักษ์คุณค่าของเมืองเก่าสงขลา สู่เมืองมรดกโลก และได้มีการประกาศผลการตัดสินรอบ สุดท้ายไปเมื่อช่วงเดือนพฤษภาคมที่ผ่านมา

ผลงานที่ชนะเลิศอันดับ 1 เป็นผลงานของ คุณปกรณ์ เนมิตรมานสุข ในชื่อผลงานว่า “ASA CLOUD THE EXISTING VALUE” ด้วยการออกแบบที่ขับเน้นเสน่ห์ของบ้านจีนสามห้องที่มีจังหวะของช่องประตูหน้าต่างโบราณที่งดงาม แสดงให้เห็นถึงการใช้อาคารที่เคยแยกเป็นสามเจ้าของในอดีต ผู้ออกแบบเลือกใช้วัสดุที่สื่อถึงความสัมพันธ์ของอาคารกับบริบทเมืองเก่าทางประวัติศาสตร์ และการจัดวางพื้นที่เก่าใหม่ที่ปรับเปลี่ยนประโยชน์ใช้สอยได้ทั้งภายในและภายนอก ให้เกิดพื้นที่สาธารณะของย่านที่ต้อนรับผู้คนให้หลั่งไหลเข้ามาชม และเข้าใจในวิชาชีพสถาปนิกมากขึ้น

ผลงานรองชนะเลิศอันดับที่ 1 เป็นผลงานออกแบบของ คุณบัณฑิตทัศน์ ทสยันไชย ในชื่อผลงานว่า “ASA CLOUD ONEGATIVE SPACE” โดยใช้ประโยชน์ของ Open space ที่เกิดจาก Negative space ของอาคารเก่าโดยรอบ เปิดให้เป็นลานสนามหญ้าที่เรียบง่าย แต่สร้างคุณค่าและความสง่างามด้วยมุมมองต่างๆ ให้กับอาคารโดยรอบ และได้ซ่อนความซับซ้อนของประโยชน์การใช้สอยใหม่ งานโครง- สร้าง งานระบบ รวมถึงการซ่อนกระบวนการปรับเปลี่ยน การใช้งานที่หลากหลายด้วยการใช้ผ้าใบในลักษณะต่างๆ เกิดความหมายของพื้นที่เปรียบเสมือนการแต่งตัวตาม บริบทพหุวัฒนธรรมที่หลากหลายในพื้นที่

ผลงานรองชนะเลิศอันดับที่ 2 เป็นผลงานออกแบบของ คุณธนวัฒน์ สร้อยนิติรัตน์ และคุณสุทธิพร ทีปะปาล โดย ใช้ชื่อผลงานว่า “ASA CLOUD- อนุรักษ์ ศึกษา ต่อยอด”  ที่พยายามเก็บรักษาทั้งรายละเอียดรูปแบบต่างๆ ของอาคารและวัสดุไว้เพื่อการศึกษาแนวความคิดและภูมิปัญญาของสถาปัตยกรรมยุคเก่า โดยนำความรู้เหล่านี้ผนวกเข้ากับการอนุรักษ์เพื่อจัดแสดงให้บุคคลทั่วไป สามารถเข้าชม ได้ในส่วนนิทรรศการ เพื่อนำาไปสู่การต่อยอดให้เป็นอาคารตัวอย่างในการต่อเติมและซ่อมแซมอาคารในเขตชุมชน เมืองเก่าสงขลาเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ต่อไป

Pakorn Nemitmansuk’s design submission won the first prize, with the title of “ASA CLOUD THE EXISTING VALUE”. The scheme emphasizes the charm of a three room Chinese house with a composition created by the rhythmical use of beautiful ancient doors and windows. These architectural elements also represent the building’s past and former use that was previously occupied by three owners. The materials proposed in this winning scheme conveys the relationship of the building and the context of the historical old town. The old and new spaces, both from the perspective of the exterior and interior can be flexibly used to create an attractive public space in the neighborhood, a new welcoming space for the public to learn more about architects, and architectural practice.

Bunthitat Tasayanchai is the first runner up who created a design proposal entitled “ASA CLOUD ONEGATIVE SPACE” . The designer employed the beneficial aspect of the of open space formed by the negative space of the old buildings around and turned it into a simple courtyard while creating value and elegance in different perspectives and angles from the surrounding buildings. The scheme also sophisticatedly creates the complexity of new usability, in its structural and system work, as well as hiding the process of modifying various applications by using the canvas in various creative ways. In turn, it helps create to create a meaning of the place, similar to dressing traditionally according to the multicultural context of the area.

The second runnerup is “ASA CLOUD- Preserve, Study, Develop” a design proposal by Thanawat Soinitirat and Suthiporn Teepapal with an idea to preserve all the parts, details, and materials of the existing building. They chose to preserve these elements as a valuable resource to learn and appreciate the wisdom of traditional architecture. In that sense, the building will be an exhibition space and the architecture on display itself for the local people and visitors, further from the exhibition inside. This idea leads to possible future developments as a model for the addition and restoration of other buildings in the old town of Songkhla.
